In this tutorial I am going to show you how to Update Windows 11, and explain some of the advanced update settings.
1. Click your start button.
2. Click the settings icon, or in the type here to search button settings, then click on the setting icon that appears. For an even quicker way to get ther search update, and windows update should pop up.
3. If the setting window opens in full-screen mode to the left of it at the bottom click Windows update.
3a. If it doesn’t open in full-screen mode click the menu button in the top left of the window, it looks like three lines stacked on top of each other, and then scroll to the bottom of the list and click on Windows update.
4. This is the Windows update screen, click the “check for updates” button. Windows will begin to search for any updates, then it will start to download them if there are any, once they are all downloaded then they will start to install.
Sometimes when you click on the windows update screen, there might be a pending update here, you should see the pending update with an install button, click the install button and the process will start. Depending on the updates being applied, once they finish installing you may be prompted to restart your computer, click the restart button when you are ready and the update will finish installing.
Advanced Updating Features:
Under the more options section, three buttons down is the “Advanced options” button click here to teak your updating experience. The first option “receive updates for other Microsoft Products” when turned on will update other Microsoft applications you have installed on your computer. So if you have the Office suite installed and you tell Windows to update your system it will not only check for system updates but it will also check for Office updates.
The next option I down is “Get me up to date” if this option is turned on your system will reboot as soon as the updates are installed, but it will give you a fifteen minute warning so you can save any data you need ot and properly close out of any applications you might have open.
Below Get me up to date is the “download updates over metered connections”. This option is meant more for devices that are using a Cellular connection to connect to the internet, these connections can be limited to how much data you download and with installing some updates, updating can quickly put you over the bandwidth limit. This option turned on will let windows download updates over a cellular network regardless of how many gigabytes they are.
Moving on to “Notify me when a restart is required to finish updating”. When this is turned on this will flash a notification on screen that will alert you that a restart is required to finish updating, and will allow you to restart your computer when you are ready to.
The last option here is “Active hours” this is where you can set the hours you use your computer most. Windows will not restart your computer or prompt you to restart your computer during these times so you can get some work done, or get interrupted by an unwanted reboot.
