Do you have a file server on your network that you would like to add to your computer as another drive? This tutorial will help you achieve that, It will be a persistent mapping as well, meaning that every time you turn on your computer you will have the drive mapped.
The first thing we need to do is open file explorer you should be able to find the icon pinned to your task bar. Go ahead to left click it to open it.
Once in a file explorer window is open fist (1) click the ellipse to the right of the menu ribbon. In the menu that just dropped down (2) select Map network drive.
In the Map network Drive window this is where we get to choose a drive letter to map the file share to. Here I am choosing F, you can choose which ever letter you would like. This is where you will need to know either the host name or the IP address of your file server and the name of the directory that is being shared to you. You will want to check off the box next to Reconnect at sign-in. Check the Connect using different credentials if the username and password you are using to connect to the file server is different than the credentials you use to log into your computer. Then click the finish button when you entered the path to the shared drive and check the boxes you want off click finish.
If you did check the box off next to Connect using different credentials enter your credentials for your file share.
You should now be connected to the shared drive, and you will see an file explorer window pop up with the directories you have permissions to access.
Now if you open file explorer and click on “This PC” you will now see your shared drive. It should now map every time you turn on your computer, you may need to enter your credentials when you try to access the file share the first time after turning on your computer.
